Successful first season for our allotments
Positive feedback from our plot holders proving that the council’s decision to develop allotments has exceeded expectations. Officially opened on January 1st, 2023 initial plans for 18 allotments soon expanded to 26 fully utilised plots with 5 micro plots and a dozen raised beds for beginners. The member’s committee elected to manage the site has successfully secured grant funding from various sources to enhance facilities for its members and the overall presentation has earned the Llanfairpwll Allotment Association a Wales Government Award. Congratulations to everyone involved..
During their first season our intrepid gardeners have utilised many freely available, locally sourced resources to enhance their growing potential; tons of Afon Menai seaweed, Llangristiolus horse manure and Penhesgyn Recycling Centre’s soil improver have been hauled, by various modes of transport, to site during the spring. Much thanks also to numerous wood chip producers for their contribution, so many footpaths overlaid with your supplies, no muddy boots on our walkways.
It has been a great season for produce, from Aubergines to Zucchinis, plots have returned good harvests despite excessive sunshine in the spring and overwhelming rainfall in the traditional growing months of July, August and September. Allotmenteers already preparing for 2024, some are even growing winter crops. Good luck to all.
The community council has secured planning permission to develop a car park for the plot holders and will work in tandem with the committee to secure funding for this project. Work will hopefully be completed by next summer.
